Prokaryote Cell Transformation

Electroporation has long been recognized as one of the most efficient methods of transforming genes into prokaryotic cell lines. The most commonly transformed cell lines are bacteria and yeast, such as Escheria coli, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Pichia pastoris and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Transformation success rates in the range of 1X1010 transformants/µg of DNA are typical.

Electroporation is also able to achieve exceptional results in gram-positive strains such as Streptococcus pneumonia and Lactobacillus, or with anaerobic bacteria such as Desulfovibro vulgaris, Dictyosteliida and other modified bacteria lines.
